Probably the best boeuf bourgoignon I have ever tasted! It is a small traditional French restaurant with good food and friendly service. Their wine selection is also very nice. We only got disappointed with the profiterole, just do not order dessert!

This was a fabulous find after a boat trip on the Seine. We were the only tourists so it was a little intimidating at first. The staff ignored us for a long while, but once they took our order and started bringing us food, they warmed up a bit. (Meaning, this is a proper French restaurant, not a tourist trap.) The food was truly phenomenal. My friends enjoyed their wine and chartreuse. I would love to come back here many times.

We had a lovely experience at dinner here our first night in Paris. I had extensively reviewed restaurant reviews prior to our trip and had settled on this place. It didn’t disappoint! The staff were lovely and welcoming (I don’t know why people insist on leaving bad reviews, I can only imagine they didn’t treat the staff with respect) and allowed me to speak my fledgling French! We shared several dishes and all were flavorful and memorable.

Au Vieux Comptoir is a charming traditional French bistro nestled at 17 Rue des Lavandières Sainte-Opportune, right in the heart of Paris. This intimate spot delivers authentic French cuisine that feels both timeless and heartfelt. From the moment you step inside, you sense a genuine devotion to classic cooking and warm hospitality.

The true star here is the boeuf bourguignon—a dish that several diners have called the best they've ever tasted. Rich, tender beef simmered in red wine with earthy mushrooms and pearl onions captures the essence of French comfort food. It’s no wonder families with kids quarrel over this hearty favorite. Beyond the boeuf, the razor clams make for an exceptional appetizer, offering a delicate, briny contrast that awakens the palate.

Service strikes a balance between respectful formality and genuine friendliness. While it maintains the character of a proper Parisian restaurant, the staff’s accommodating nature ensures you feel welcomed, even if you're a tourist or dining with children. The wine selection shines, pairing elegantly with dishes and enhancing the overall experience. Guests have praised lively atmospheres and thoughtful touches—like a Champagne toast for special occasions—that make moments here memorable.

Au Vieux Comptoir is both a culinary and cultural experience. Its proximity to the Louvre and the Seine means you can easily weave it into a day of iconic Paris sightseeing. And while desserts may draw mixed reviews, the savory plates and the convivial spirit make this a must-visit for lovers of French gastronomy seeking authenticity without pretense. In sum, Au Vieux Comptoir offers a slice of Parisian essence—rich flavors, genuine service, and an atmosphere pulsing with tradition and warmth.
